Yehezkiel 5:11

5:11 “Therefore, as surely as I live, says the sovereign Lord, because you defiled my sanctuary with all your detestable idols and with all your abominable practices, I will withdraw; my eye will not pity you, nor will I spare ¹  you.

Yehezkiel 8:10

8:10 So I went in and looked. I noticed every figure ²  of creeping thing and beast – detestable images ³  – and every idol of the house of Israel, engraved on the wall all around. ⁴ 

[5:11]  ¹ tn The meaning of the Hebrew term is primarily emotional: “to pity,” which in context implies an action, as in being moved by pity in order to spare them from the horror of their punishment.

[8:10]  ² tn Or “pattern.”

[8:10]  ³ tn Heb “detestable.” The word is often used to describe the figures of foreign gods.

[8:10]  ⁴ sn These engravings were prohibited in the Mosaic law (Deut 4:16-18).
